Top-Down Sailing Simulator (Beneteau 44.7)
Boat Speed: 6 knots
True Wind Speed: 15 knots
True Wind Angle: 45°
Outputs:
AWS: 0 knots
AWA: 0°
VMG: 0 knots
AWS: 0 knots
AWA: 0°
VMG: 0 knots
AWS = Apparent Wind Speed (wind experienced onboard)
AWA = Apparent Wind Angle (wind angle relative to the bow)
VMG = Velocity Made Good (forward progress toward the wind)
AWA = Apparent Wind Angle (wind angle relative to the bow)
VMG = Velocity Made Good (forward progress toward the wind)
How to Use This Simulator:
1. Adjust the sliders to set Boat Speed, True Wind Speed, and True Wind Angle (TWA).
2. The sail image updates automatically to show the correct point of sail.
3. The blue arrow shows the Apparent Wind direction and speed.
4. The green/red shading indicates the optimal VMG zones based on the polar data.
5. Polar curves are labeled with TWS values to compare expected performance.
6. The No-Go Zone appears when sailing too close to the wind (AWA ≤ 30°).
